Dexter

Hi Sue and Jen!

I've been thinking about sending you guys an update lately! Thanks for writing. Dex and I are doing great. He's lying under my computer desk as we speak, a common position when I'm at the computer. He's such a good puppy and a great companion. He insisted on sleeping in my bed since the 2nd night I've had him! Most nights he can be found curled up above my head and slowly pushing me off my pillow as the night progresses. He's also fond of lying on his back, completely stretched out, like a human! He's wonderful in the day with the crate and has plenty of energy to share when I get home.

He's discovered water at the park near my house. He jumped right into the creek and splashed around! He hasn't tested anything over his head requiring him to swim, but I think it's safe to say he's a water dog :) Another funny story was the night he accidentally snorted a beetle up his nose in the back yard! He sneezed horribly all night and had me worried because, at the time, I had no idea what was wrong and he was acting sad. Then, in the morning, he let out a big sneeze and shot the dead beetle out of his nose!!! After that he was happy again. I can't imagine what it must have felt like to have that beetle crawling around in his nasal passage! He's a trooper though!

He's been meeting many new people and doggies. He had an interesting run-in with the HUGE 9 mo Great Dane down the street...he did everything but jump in mommy's arms for protection! He's a bit of a scaredy-cat up close, but likes to bark like a big boy when danger is safely in the distance. A very good protector ;) He's been great around my nephews and friend's dogs. He just met my coworkers dog last weekend and we're pretty sure they are long lost relatives! They look so much alike! Lucy is 7. He loves to meet new people and never tires from all the gushing people do over him. He's a real ham!

I feel so lucky to have Dexter in my life. He's been an absolute joy and wonderful comic relief when I've had a rough day at work. He's learned to sit, give paw, lie down and speak on command. We're still working on "stay" and "come," but he's an eager learner.

I'm so sorry to hear about your doggie. I can't imagine how difficult that must be to go through. My thoughts are with you.

I hope you enjoy the pics I've attached. As you can see from the one pic he doesn't like to be photographed. Every time I point the camera at him now to get a cute pic he barks before I get the pose!! Everyone tells me he's getting bigger, but I'm having a hard time judging since I see him every day. He weighs about 45 pounds now and lost his last baby tooth this weekend. Next update will be around Christmas time. Hope to have some snow for him to play in!

I hope all is well out west. Dexter is doing great as a city dog!

Best Wishes,
Lisa & Dexter
