This is the story of
Boots... When I first saw Boots, I was shocked by his appearance. He has three large tumors, one on each side of his body and one on his belly, and on first meeting, this is what catches your eye. But after the initial shock, I found that he is a friendly dog, that he approached me in a calm, accepting way, and that he is also good with other dogs. He seemed to have plenty of energy and was most anxious to go for a walk. Without the tumors, I would estimate his weight to be around 30 pounds, but the tumors make him look much larger and probably add about 10-12 pounds to his body weight. The gentleman who surrendered Boots shared this information with me: Boots is 11 years old. He originally came from a shelter and was owned by an elderly aunt who now is in a nursing home and can no longer care for him. He was very attached to this woman and he was the center of her world. The woman took him for annual vet visits and tried to provide proper care. The gentleman said that on a recent visit the vet indicated that the tumors did not cause the dog pain, so nothing has been done about the tumors. The family caring for Boots' elderly owner were consumed by the care for their aunt and Boots was living alone in her former house. If Boots were to go to a shelter, he would most likely be euthanized. The family did not want this to happen to dear Boots since he is still active and friendly. That is how Boots came to Furry Friends Network. Boots is now in foster care. Boots is a very sweet boy, who despite his appearance, has a lot of life left in him.
